Need help selecting a starter trail bike $250ish for 250lb guy.?

My best friend and I got Wal*Mart Next and Mongoose bikes for $100, but they weren't crap. After going riding on some serious state park trails the derailleurs broke, the breaks are failing, the chains are slipping, and the pedals are popping off. Luckily they have a pretty liberal return policy with the $6 protection plans. I realize that adult males riding aggressively are going to tear up $100 bikes within a couple of rides. I don't care about flash or style, but I need something rugged enough to ride regularly off road without breaking the bank. What do cops ride? Those mountain bikes look pretty stout. I know the government is not buying $800 Treks and Giants. Can I get something decent now for around $250-$350 that will at least last for 2-3 seasons until I am good at mountain biking and can decide what I really want to invest in?

Is the brand "Mongoose" a quality brand for BMX bikes?

I just bought a BMX bike for my little brother's birthday and he is concerned that it is crappy because it's mongoose. His friend is convincing him that it's a bad bike because it's made by Mongoose. Can someone who knows a lot about bikes insight me?

If you love someone, let them go free. Make yourself available only when the children are involved. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder. Give her plenty of absence. It's a girl-trick, but it works. If you're talking with her on the phone, and the kids have been discussed, get off of the phone. She knows you love her. It's gonna make her wonder if maybe she made a mistake. Give her all the absence you can. To 'win her back', you've got to ignore her. I know, easier said than done. But it has a better chance of working than anything else.

Really bad kitten problems!!?

I've had my kitten for about three months and he's four months now. We let him go ANYWHERE and do anything he wants. He just can't go on top of our one leather set of couches since it's really expensive and my mom doesn't like cats as it is. Turns out, he scratched them very badly. I've tried everything. Catnip on a scratching post works very little, only for a couple of seconds and I've tried so many repellents and they don't work on him. He's a very sweet cat most of the time but he randomly pounces on me and tries to bite me. I really don't know what to do anymore and my mom wants to get rid of him and I need to find something that will work otherwise we have to give him away.
